In 1977 Matso completed high school and embarked on a new journey as a Form One educator. She diligently served in this role for a decade, until 1987, when she obtained her JSC Certificate. As an educator, she also held a concurrent position as an old-age nurse for six years. She enrolled as a South African nursing council member to pursue this noble profession and attained the necessary qualifications. After a decade of teaching and six years of nursing, she joined the African National Congress (ANC).
In 2000 she became chairperson of the first provincial housing board. She was the first black lady to serve on that board in the Free State. She also became a provincial Water Board member and the only black woman on that board before it was called Sedibeng Water.
Throughout her professional career, she was deeply involved in politics and worked extensively in local governance. During her tenure as a municipal employee from 2011 to 2015, she was actively engaged in various political initiatives including a mayoral position. However, her personal preference is cleanliness and maintaining a pristine environment. She takes great pleasure in cultivating beautiful flower gardens and growing fresh vegetables, as they bring her immense joy and fulfillment.
At the moment, she does presentations in high schools, talks to troublemaking learners, address learners to follow the right path, and motivates educators. Currently, she doesn’t have a formal job, but she is giving her knowledge back to the community. Matso had only one child, a son, who committed suicide and left her with two children she gracefully raised. As of now, one of the children is an educator, and the other one just completed a degree and is currently doing an internship at District offices.
She is highly involved in community services, and whenever there is a community crisis, she steps in and solves the matter with the help of other women she works with.
She had a big catering company, and when she retired, she volunteered to teach other women in her community cooking skills and everything concerning food. Matso is an admirable and esteemed member of her community who has devoted her life to serving others through her work. Her unwavering commitment to helping those in need is truly inspiring and a testament to her selflessness.
